Exhibit Celebrates 75 Years of Sheffield–Bochum Friendship

Sheffield’s long-standing friendship with the German city of Bochum is being celebrated with a special exhibition marking 75 years of twinning between the two cities.

The exhibition, hosted at Sheffield’s Central Library, has been created in collaboration with Sheffield City Council and the University of Sheffield. It highlights not only the civic relationship between the councils of Sheffield and Stadt Bochum, but also the importance of community connections and grassroots partnerships that have flourished over the decades.

What’s on Display

Visitors can explore a collection of artefacts from the Sheffield City Archives, including:

• Historic photo albums

• Civic gifts exchanged between the cities

• The 1983 Declaration of Peace, signed to reaffirm the friendship

Community contributions also form a key part of the display. Wisewood Junior FC, who have held an annual football exchange with a team in Bochum since 1991, and the Philharmonic Chorus, linked with their Bochum counterparts since 2006, have both donated memorabilia.

The exhibition runs until Sunday 18 August 2025 on the ground floor of Sheffield’s Central Library – offering one final weekend for residents and visitors to discover more about this remarkable international partnership.
